Alternate Cedric Diggory is Cedric Diggory in an alternate timeline created by Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy after they meddle in time and travel back to the past, creating an alternate reality II where Harry was killed and Lord Voldemort survived. 

Cedric was humiliated in public and lost the Triwizard Tournament; he does not go to the graveyard with Harry and is not killed by Wormtail/Voldemort. However, the humiliation radicalises Cedric. Feeling publicly shamed and broken, he became embittered, which caused him to join the Death Eaters. Adult Cedric becomes a Death Eater and plays a key role in Voldemort's victory. As a result, Lord Voldemort wins the Battle of Hogwarts (in 1998). Harry Potter is killed.

By the time Scorpius and Albus arrive in this new 2020, the wizarding world is a dark dystopia.

However, Cedric rescued Albus and Scorpius from the Dark Witch (Delphini), thinking that it was part of the task.
